The struggle of migrants continues regardless of who wins the elections

This 2024 presidential election, IMA-USA has no illusion that either ruling class party listens to the voices or meets the true needs of migrants. Anti-migrant fear mongering has been aggressively deployed to distract the American people from the real causes of their poverty and hardship: decades of failed neoliberal policies and imperialist wars that have enriched a tiny elite group at the expense of everyone else.

Internationally, the bipartisan consensus is to continue the United States’ economic exploitation of poor countries backed up by absurdly over-funded military interventions and inter-imperialist wars - a recipe that has rendered our homelands unliveable.

Despite Harris’ claims that she will implement an “earned pathway to citizenship,” she vows to enhance militarization and stricter enforcement at the border. As a Biden administration leader on immigration, her actions actually contributed to the highest number of deportations ever and the intensification of Trump’s title 42 policy, effectively closing down the asylum process.

Trump promises that he will deport all undocumented, and even some documented, immigrants – an impossible and cruel claim he made and failed to fulfill during his first term. He goes so far as to threaten to use the U.S. military to do it, consistent with his power-hungry ambitions toward outright fascism.

We urge all migrants to build the political power we need by forming strong organizations, alliances and links of solidarity to ready ourselves for the fight ahead. No elites are coming to save us. Our real hope is in the people’s movements.

Migrants are often on the frontlines of the anti-imperialist movement in the U.S. and internationally – we are the products of forced migration and imperialist devastation of our homelands. It is critical in this era of intensifying war to fight for a just peace, for the sovereignty and self determination of all people, to end the over-exploitation of migrant workers and our homelands, and to secure decent livelihood, health, housing, and legalization for all.
