The Fight for Migrant Justice Endures No Matter Who is President!
The outcome of the U.S. presidential and congressional elections would never solve the intensified crises facing millions of migrant workers and families in the U.S. Even as the official results are being contested and sorted out, there are still more than 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country, with the majority still exploited on the frontlines of the U.S. economy and at continued high risk for COVID infection. IMA-USA continues to wage grassroots campaigns to build the grassroots movement of migrants to confront imperialism and fascism of all forms in our local communities, at the border, and in our homelands.
The rights of migrants and real solutions to the root cause of forced migration were not featured at all in the presidential campaigns of either Trump or Biden. At most they tried to blame each other for the symptoms of immigration challenges in this country including the cages where children are detained, mass deportations, child separations, elimination of DACA and Temporary Protected Status without offering real solutions for migrants or workers. In the course of their campaigns it became even more clear that no matter who was elected, the grassroots struggle of migrants must continue, expand, and grow in strength to push for real solutions.
In the meantime, in the last few months human rights violations have been exposed, enforcement actions have intensified, and attacks against migrants have escalated. The unsafe and exploitative work conditions of migrant farmworkers and essential workers in retail, healthcare, and distribution continue to expose them to COVID infections. Horrifically, at an ICE detention facility in Georgia, a whistleblower nurse exposed the non-consensual sterilization of several migrant women by a prison-contracted doctor. She is now being threatened with deportation, despite being a citizen. The inhumane, unhealthy, and unsanitary conditions in several immigrant detention facilities have led to COVID-19 infection rates of up to 25%. The life-threatening grouping and transfer of immigrant detainees amidst positive cases have resulted in the unnecessary deaths of dozens of incarcerated migrants in the U.S. and the spread of infections from here to our homelands as well. Unbelievably, in the midst of an out-of-control health pandemic, ICE raids continue, targeting sanctuary cities and hard-working immigrants and family members, including those suffering from acute mental health crises. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has fought to terminate the Temporary Protected Status of migrants coming from several countries suffering from political and natural disasters.
A second Trump term with racist xenophobes like Stephen Miller crafting his anti-immigrant policies would be disastrous. Miller’s priorities include continuing a freeze on new green cards, rewriting laws allowing for the indefinite detention of children and their parents, restricting asylum applications and approvals, pushing U.S. border enforcement into other “third safe countries,” punishing and outlawing sanctuary cities, expanding immigration bans by associating immigrants with terrorism and extremism, and prioritizing wealthy immigrants on a “points-based entry system” to the exclusion of working class migrants. None of this is an endorsement of Trump’s opponent. The Obama-Biden administration’s control of the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration enforcement system has already proven brutal and inhumane. Under Obama, deportations peaked and private detention facilities were expanded, and Biden has shown he would continue to militarize the southern border, implement neoliberal economic policies, and impose the imperialist actions that are the true root causes of forced migration from our homelands.

!La lucha por la justicia de los migrantes sigue sin importar quien es presidente!
El resultado de las elecciones presidenciales y parlamentarias de los E.E.U.U. nunca resolverá la crisis intensificada enfrentando a millones de migrantes trabajadores y sus familias en los E.E.U.U. Mientras los resultados oficiales sean contestados y ordenados, todavía hay más de 11 millones de inmigrantes indocumentados en el país, con la mayoría explotados en la primera línea de la economía de los E.E.U.U. y continuando alto riesgo para infección de COVID. IMA-E.E.U.U. continua ha hacer campañas para construir al movimiento de base de migrantes enfrentando al imperialismo y al facismo de todas formas en nuestras comunidades locales, en la frontera, y en nuestras tierras natales.
Los derechos de los migrantes y soluciones reales a las causas de raíz de la migración forzada no fueron discutidas para nada en las campañas presidenciales de cualquiera Trump o Biden. A lo más trataron de culpar uno al otro por los síntomas de los retos de inmigracion en este país incluyendo a las jaulas donde detienen a niños, deportación masiva, separación de niños, eliminación de DACA y al estado de protección temporal sin ofrecer soluciones reales para migrantes o trabajadores. A través de sus campañas se hizo más claro que no importa que sea elegido, la lucha de base de migrantes tiene que continuar, expandirse, y crecer en su fuerza para avanzar a soluciones reales.
Mientras tanto, en los últimos meses las violaciones de derechos humanos han sido expuestas, las medidas de ejecución se han intensificado, y los ataques contra migrantes han aumentado. Las condiciones inseguras y explotativas de trabajadores migrantes en comercio minorista, salud, y distribucion continuan ha exponerlos a infecciones de COVID. Horriblemente, en el centro de detención de facilidad de ICE en Georgia, una enfermera denunciante expuso la esterilización coercitiva de muchas mujeres migrantes por un doctor contratado por la prisión. Ahora está siendo acosada con deportación, aunque es cuidadana. Las condiciones inhumanas, dañinas, y antihigiénicas en demasiadas facilidades de detención de migrantes han resultado a índices de infección de hasta 25%. La agrupación y traslación fatal de inmigrantes detenidos entre casos positivos que han resultado en muertes innecesarias de docenas de migrantes encarcelados en los E.E.U.U. y la propagación de infecciones desde aquí hasta nuestros países de origen. Increíblemente, en medio de una pandemia de salud fuera de control, redadas de ICE continúan, intimidación de ciudades de santuario e inmigrantes y sus familias trabajadoras, incluyendo a los que sufren de crisis graves de salud mental. Mientras tanto, la administración de Trump ha peleado para terminar al estado de protección temporal de migrantes que vienen de países sufriendo de desastres políticos y naturales.
Un segundo término de Trump con xenófobos racistas como Stephen Miller creando sus políticas anti-inmigrantes sería desastroso. Las prioridades de Miller incluyen continuar a poner alto a nuevas permisos de residencia, cambio de leyes permitiendo la detención indefinida de niños y sus padres, restricciones en solicitudes y apruebes de asilo, castigando y haciendo illegal a la ciudades de santuario, expandiendo prohibiciones de inmigracion por asociar inmigrantes con el terrorismo y extremismo, priorizando a migrantes ricos con un “sistema de entrada de puntos” para excluir a los migrantes de la clase trabajadora. Nada de esto es apoyo para el oponente de Trump. El control sobre el Departamento de Seguro Nacional debajo de la administración de Obama-Biden ya ha probado ser brutal e inhumana. Debajo Obama, deportaciones llegaron a su cima y los centros de deportación fueron expandidos, y Biden has mostrado que continuará a militarizar a la frontera del sur, implementar a políticas económicas neoliberales, y imponer a acciones imperialistas que son la causa de raíz de migración forzada de nuestra tierras natales.
